MAC recently unveiled a brand new lure course to honor the memory and legacy of late MAC volunteer, John Williams.
Williams unexpectedly passed away in July 2020, during the height of the covid-19 pandemic at 82 years old. John was a devoted and passionate volunteer of McKamey Animal Center from the time the Center opened. His love of animals, and devotion to helping enrich the lives of the big dogs at MAC will be remembered forever.
To honor his legacy, a ribbon cutting event was hosted at the center to celebrate a small expansion of our behavior and enrichment program. The MAC dogs now have a lure course of their very own to utilize on a daily basis!! A lure course is a mechanized, white plastic lure that simulates the unpredictability of chasing live prey to encourage dogs to run and play. A similar lure course was enjoyed by many of the attendees at our Paw Palooza event in Coolidge Park earlier this year.
John loved nothing more than “to watch the big dogs play” and MAC is so grateful to have a lure course of our very own now for our shelter dogs, and to always remember John’s love and devotion. And thanks to the City of Chattanooga, November 5th, 2022 was officially proclaimed John Williams day in the city of Chattanooga!
